An instinctive entrepreneur, Gayle started her first business at age 7 when she made and sold dolls' clothing for neighborhood girls. Like most women, this passion for creativity and enterprise didn't follow a straight line. Opting for the "practical" route, Gayle embarked on a rewarding 15 year career in financial services, where she held progressive leadership roles in small business banking, marketing and operations. As a vice president, she helped these Canadian giants build their brands and improve their bottom line. Through it all, her entrepreneurial passions smoldered just below the surface. She realized that her greatest sense of personal accomplishment was always in helping her employers create---- new products, new services, and new lines of business. This epiphany led to a major life change. So in 2008, Gayle traded in her sensible suits for stylish sweats, dusted off her Journal of Great Business Ideas and embarked on living her dream. She hasn't looked back since. Her first venture, Island Caribe is a resort lifestyle company featuring luxurious eco- friendly body care products. Currently available at exclusive resort properties such as Four Seasons and AmanResorts, Island Caribe products will soon be distributed worldwide by a Swiss duty-free chain.
Gayle believes that being passionate and practical is who we are as women and that striking the balance between the two is the key to living the life of our dreams. Her vision is that EntrepreNursery will help women find that balance. Gayle is a graduate of the York University Schulich School of Business and the University of Guleph. She is the creator of our 5BIG Things process and is a master at jumpstarting people, their ideas and businesses.
Liz Harmer is a small business advocate with a knack for making things happen. Over the past 11 years, Liz has worked in entrepreneurial, corporate and non-profit environments in the areas of buying, marketing, public relations, strategy and event management. She has launched major inaugural events and has helped organizations across a number of industries better understand their customers, launch new initiatives, develop new businesses, raise their profile or improve their strategy.
Liz strongly believes that you never know where life will take you, so keep your feet firmly grounded but follow anywhere your gut leads you. In the end exploring a hunch or an idea, whether it succeeds or not, takes less of an emotional or physical investment than the energy devoted to always wondering about it. This approach has led her to a number of unique experiences, from producing a national award show, to living in England, to filming the pilot for a TV show, becoming a certified Ashtanga yoga teacher and ultimately to co-founding EntrepreNursery.
Liz has an MBA from McGill University and a BA from the University of Western Ontario. She is a dedicated yogini and an active half-marathon runner. She is the creator of our signature My Biz Matches My Shoes Workshops and has recently been nominated for The 2009 Mompreneur of the Year Award. She is a mom of two and lives in Toronto.
